Mission Statement
The fundamental commitment of the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Education Trust is to the creation of an inclusive society. This involves opposition to all forms of discrimination and exclusion and support for those educators and community activists actively working to oppose racism and to help achieve a just and inclusive society. The philosophy underpinning the Trust’s work is that racialist attitudes are not inevitable and can be challenged and overcome through principled educational practice.
Our work seeks to promote social and community cohesion, to challenge racism and remove social and ethnic barriers. Our educational activities encourage people of all ages and ethnicity to learn more about the contributions of Britain’s ethnic minority communities, whilst raising aspirations among ethnic minority young people and their communities.
Objectives
- To develop activities that raise aspirations and achievement among ethnic minority young people and their families.
- To produce new resources recognising and documenting ethnic minority history, culture and experience.
- To work with community groups to support and encourage the collation of written and oral histories of new and established ethnic minority communities in Greater Manchester ensuring that this heritage is retained and celebrated.
- To enable youth, community and education practitioners to develop anti-racist approaches, by providing resources, training and networking opportunities and working with them to produce curriculum-friendly resources
- To facilitate access to educational and historical resources held at the Race Relations Resource Centre for schools and the wider community.
- To develop and maintain relationships with statutory bodies and local community groups providing information and staff support in marking key events and people in ethnic minority history.
