Ahmed’s mum Fatima Begum built a school in memory of her son on land donated by her parents in her home village. Friends and colleagues in Manchester helped to raise £7,000 which paid for initial building work. The Ahmed Iqbal Memorial High School opened in 1995 with four classrooms and a head teacher’s office. It continues to develop with financial support from Fatima and her family. In 2016 the building has 14 classrooms and educates 930 children up to 16 years old.
