Refugee Oral Testimonies
In 2005 and 2006 the Education Trust received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to undertake oral history interviews with refugees in Manchester. As part of the project the Trust recruited a bi-lingual outreach worker, Anisa Dani, to collect the interviews. Interviews were recorded in audio with over 40 members of three key refugee and asylum seeker communities in Manchester – Somali, Afghani and Kurdish. Some additional shorter interviews were collected by sessional outreach workers from each community.
The research was used to create posters and a teaching resource suitable for both Primary and Secondary schools and inspired a video about the refugee experience. The video was created by the video artist Humberto Velez.
