Pupils from St Margaret’s Primary School in Whalley Range have worked with the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Education Trust to update a classic children’s story with a multicultural twist.
The story of Ebony Mya and the Seven Duppies is based on the Brothers Grimm classic, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, but has now been set against a backdrop of calypso tunes, rap music, and dance in true Caribbean style.
The book was launched with a play based on the story, written and produced by pupils and staff at St Margaret’s school, and was performed in a packed school hall in front of parents, teachers, and pupils. Starring in the play were five Year 4 pupils who wrote the play and designed the illustrations for the book.
