This is a teaching pack about the lives of Britain’s Travelling Showmen. It is built around photographs and life stories of young Showmen who have a winter base in Manchester but spend much of the season travelling to fairgrounds across the UK.
The pack challenges the stereotypical views often held about the people who run our fairgrounds. There is a 20 page teacher book containing a history of the fair, discussion of education issues, and a guide to activities; 5 A2 full colour posters, featuring contemporary and historic images; and 20 work-cards teachers can photocopy for use in the classroom.
This teaching pack was made in collaboration with the International New Arrivals, Travellers and Supplementary Schools Team (INA,T &SST) of Manchester Children’s Services. It has been praised and endorsed by Mr.David Wallis, Senior Vice-President of The Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain.
