Join us on Thursday 25th July, 5pm- 7:30pm in the Performance Space at Manchester Central Library for a momentous event: “The African Presence in the University of Manchester’s Bicentenary 1824 – 2024.”
This year, as we celebrate Manchester University’s 200th anniversary, we recognize the significant achievements and contributions of many groups and organizations. Our bicentenary reflection encompasses academic scholarship, national and international developments, science, industry, and the humanities. Notably, we cannot overlook the profound impact of individuals from the African continent and the African Diaspora.
We are honoured to present an illustrative review and critique by historical researcher and teacher, Washington Alcott, focusing on the African presence throughout the University’s 200-year history. Utilizing the University’s extensive archival records, books, public inscriptions, and the accomplishments of its graduates, this presentation will highlight the vital contributions of people of African descent to the socio-cultural and economic fabric of the University.
Refreshments will be provided. Last entry will be at 5:30pm. Tickets are free but you must book to reserve your place.
